I have met many long-term western travellers and they could travel for at least 6 months or up to 1 year
Some people might think this is insane, how could they do so?
One of the advantages is because of their stronger currency, and they do not commit themselves for loans like buying car/ house once started to work… I assumed one of the reasons it was also too expensive to buy the house in their country and the majority of them prefer to have a good lifestyle and enjoying life instead?
While in Asia culture, we just tend to be “kiasu” which means a person very anxious not to miss an opportunity/ grasping.Including myself. We want to own everything in hand, for example, business, car, house and family etc. We do not want to be left out of the normal norm. For example, when you are approaching the age of 30, and if you still do not have a good career, do not own a car and house yet, hence majority might categorise you as an unsuccessful person.
Perhaps this might not only happen in Asia unfortunately mostly this is the case for Asian. There is no right or wrong, it is the just different style of living.
Anyway, If you want to take a break just like me and get to travel for a while. These are the few things and tips I have done:
a) WORK
There is no other shortcut.Work and save it to get travel fund.
If you are a student now, and you know you want to go for overseas travelling
Hence you should have started to do part-time while you are studying.
If you know and clear about your goal earlier, you would plan it earlier.
Alternatively, you could find out those programs such as
b) Sales Field Got Me Money
I worked as Sales in order for me to get more funds.Sales is the channel that allows me to get more cash but of course, pressure would be there.
However, when you managed to get the 5 figures income, everything is worth it.And there are many types of Sales, you do not necessarily sell it to end users.
You could also do in a professional and corporate way.
c) Saving
Make sure you have some savings every month.Set a goal when you will be going to get enough money to travel.
For my case, If I have overspent that month, I will save up some money on next month or figure out various ways to invest in something else.
c) Investment
I diversified my money to various investments – mutual funds, share etc.(depends on your ability, do not put all eggs in one basket)
These are the ways how you could make more money, increase your cash flow.
d) Part-time job
Besides full-time job, find a job that you think you are good at. Or even though if you are not good at it but you are willing to try, still go ahead.
You will never know what would be the outcome. For me, I like writing despite I am not good at grammar. For me, by writing could I express myself better.
Hence I do write articles for other companies, at the same time building up my new blog, coming up post: why should you have your own blog
e) Assets
Ok, I am also a typical Asian. Buying houses so that I feel secure and I am implementing Airbnb concept and rent it out for extra money.

Besides this, renting out the car park at my condominium is also another money source for me.
f) Car rental
I rented out my old car to my ex-colleague when I was away for the past few months. Of course, you have to be careful and have a mutual agreement before renting out your car to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
g) Carousell
I sold out all my unnecessary kinds of stuff , when I was planning to buy a new laptop (easier to carry during travel ) I sold out my old laptop. Same case for my phone.
As you could see, I tried many ways to increase my money and it seems these things everyone knows about it.And it is pretty common ways, isn’t it?
However, just how many people willing to try it out? We are just too comfortable with our current comfort zone, again, there is no right or wrong. This is your life.We do not need to tell you what you should you do in your life, you should already know what is your game plan in life.
Cheers.
